Ingredients

  • 12 - sardines
  • 2 - onions
  • 3 - tomatoes
  • 4 - green chillies or as per taste
  • 3 tbsp - oil
  • White pepper powder as per taste
  • Salt as per taste
  • Water

How to Make Sardines in Oil

  • Clean sardines, apply salt and keep aside for one hour.
  • Finely chop the onions, tomatoes, green chillies and toss them with salt and pepper and keep aside for an hour.
  • Heat oil in a pressure cooker.
  • When the oil starts to smoke, put in layers, first the onion mixture, then the sardines and top it with water.
  • The water level should be about 2 inches above the whole mixture.
  • Do not stir this mixture.
  • Place the lid of the pressure cooker and cook first on high flame till the whistle is let out and then on slow flame for 30 minutes.
  • Serve hot or cold. This can also be stored in the refrigerator for a week or so.
