  • 12 - sardines
  • 2 - Onions
  • 3 - Tomatoes
  • 4 - Green chillies or as per taste
  • 3 tbsp - oil
  • White pepper powder as per taste
  • Salt as per taste
  • Water
  • How to Make Sardines in Oil:

    1. Clean sardines, apply salt and keep aside for one hour.
    2. Finely chop the onions, tomatoes, green chillies and toss them with salt and pepper and keep aside for an hour.
    3. Heat oil in a pressure cooker.
    4. When the oil starts to smoke, put in layers, first the onion mixture, then the sardines and top it with water.
    5. The water level should be about 2 inches above the whole mixture.
    6. Do not stir this mixture.
    7. Place the lid of the pressure cooker and cook first on high flame till the whistle is let out and then on slow flame for 30 minutes.
    8. Serve hot or cold. This can also be stored in the refrigerator for a week or so.
