Ingredients

  • 1/4 cabbage (cut into square pieces)
  • 3 carrots (cut into 1/4 inch circles)
  • 10 French beans (cut into 1 inch pieces)
  • 1 green bell pepper (cut into square pieces)
  • 1 cup of cauliflower florets
  • 1/2 cup of cilantro (chopped for garnish)
  • 1 green chilli (sliced lengthwise)
  • 1 white onion (sliced thin)
  • 1 bundle of bean thread (optional)
  • 400ml can of coconut milk
  • 1/2 tsp of turmeric powder
  • 1 tsp of coriander seeds
  • 3 tbsp of olive oil / vegetable oil
  • salt to taste
  • water

How to Make Sayur Lodeh

  • Place a large pot and heat oil. Add the coriander seeds, onions and green chilli and cook till onions are soft.
  • Meanwhile, soak the bean thread in some warm water and snip them into 2 inch long pieces.
  • Add vegetables, turmeric powder and salt to taste.
  • Stir constantly until all the vegetables are cooked.
  • Drain the bean thread. Add vegetables and stir till it is completely covered with turmeric and salt.
  • Add enough water to cover the vegetables completely.
  • Stir coconut milk to remove lumps before adding.
  • Let the gravy come to a rolling boil before removing from the heat.
  • Garnish with chopped coriander and serve with steamed rice.
