Ingredients

  • Thai fish sauce - 3 tbsp
  • red lentils - 100 gm
  • thick coconut milk - 1 cup
  • prawns - 250 gm, cleaned and chopped
  • squid - 2, cleaned and sliced into rings
  • onion - 1
  • cloves - 3
  • oriental chili paste - 2 tsp
  • water - 3 cup
  • For Oriental Chilli Paste:
  • dry shrimp - 1 tbsp
  • dried red chillies - 5
  • shallots - 6 to 8
  • garlic - 5 flakessugar - 2 tsp
  • thick tamarind juice - 2 tsp
  • oil - 5 tbsp
  • salt to taste

How to Make Seafood and Lentil Soup

  • Combine lentils with water.
  • Peel the onion and stick the cloves in it.
  • Add it to the lentils.
  • Simmer till lentils are soft and mushy.
  • Lift out and discard the onion.
  • Cool the lentils and blend till smooth.
  • Combine chili paste with1/4 cup of coconut milk and cook in a non-stick pan till fragrant.
  • Add the blended lentil, prawns and squid.
  • Simmer till the sea food is cooked.
  • Add fish sauce and remaining coconut milk.
  • Simmer for 2 minutes.
  • Serve hot.
  • For Oriental Chilli Paste:
  • Grind all the ingredients except oil and tamarind together to a paste.
  • Heat oil and roast the paste over medium flame for about till the raw smell is lost.
  • Add tamarind, mix well and remove.
