Ingredients

  • 500 g fish (preferably skinless and boneless), cut into 2" pieces (fish with skin and bones can also be used)
  • 4 tbsp oil
  • 1 large onion, chopped fine (1 cup)
  • 2-3 Green chillies
  • 1/2 tsp Garlic paste
  • 1/2 tsp Ginger paste
  • 1/2 tsp Haldi powder
  • 1/2 tsp Red Chilli powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 3 medium tomatoes, chopped very fine (2.5 cups)
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 2 heated tsp Corn flour
  • Grind together:
  • 1 tsp Mustard Seeds
  • 1/2 tsp ajwain
  • 1 tsp Jeera
  • For garnishing:
  • Some pepper powder
  • Some fresh Coriander leaves
  • How to Make Shahi Machhi Patiala:

    1. In a casserole, take oil. Add powdered mustard, jeera and ajwain. Microwave on high uncovered for 2 minutes.
    2. Add haldi, onion, ginger, garlic and green chillies. Mix well. Microwave on high uncovered for 4 minutes.
    3. Add red chilli powder, salt, tomatoes and half cup water.
    4. Microwave on high covered for 8 minutes.
    5. Mix and mash well with a spoon.
    6. Add corn flour dissolved in 2 tbsp water and fish pieces.
    7. Mix well. Microwave on high covered for 5 minutes. Let it for stand for 3-4 minutes.
    8. Serve hot garnished with fresh coriander and pepper powder.
