Ingredients

5 - Shark pieces

½ cup - Shallots

2 - Tomatoes

3 - Garlic

1 - Green chillies (chopped)

1 - Tamarind (small size)

1/2 cup - Coconut Milk

1/4 tsp - Turmeric powder

5 - Curry leaves

1 tsp - Green chillies

1 tsp - Coriander leaves

Salt

Oil

To Grind: 1 tsp - Urad Dal

1 tsp - Channa dal

3 - Red Chillies

1 tsp - Coriander seeds

1/4 tsp - Fenugreek seeds

1 tsp - Peppercorns

1 tsp - Raw Rice

Method

  1. Fry and grind all the ingredients from the grind list without adding oil.
  2. Grind them to a fine powder, soak the tamarind in hot water and form a thick tamarind juice.
  3. Chop the fish into small pieces (don't cook them in hot water as we do for making hash).
  4. Heat oil in a pan, add the pearl onions n fry them until they turn golden brown, add tomatoes, garlic pods, green chilly pieces, curry leaves and fry it for a while.
  5. Now add the ground powder as per your need to the vegetables and cook in a low flame for a while.
  6. Add the fish pieces and salt, fry them until the colour of the fish changes, increase the flame, add the tamarind juice with turmeric powder, boil them for a minute.
  7. Add the coconut milk to the gravy, once the oil separates, turn off the stove.
  8. Garnish with coriander leaves.
  9. Serve hot with papads or else with boiled eggs.
  10. Can also prepare them with king fish pieces too.
