Ingredients

  • 12 to 15 - tender silverbeet stalks
  • 1 - onion, finely chopped
  • 1 or 2 flakes - garlic, crushed
  • 2 - green chillies, slit vertically
  • 1 tbsp - corn flour
  • 1/2 tsp - crushed mixed herbs, dried
  • 1 tbsp - olive oil
  • Few granules sugar
  • salt to taste

How to Make Silver Beet Vegetable Stew

  • Chop stalks finely, chop greens coarsely.
  • Wash and drain greens.
  • Dissolve corn flour in 1/4 cup water, keep aside.
  • Heat oil in a pan, add onions, garlic, stir-fry till soft and pink.
  • Add green chillies, stir-fry for a minute.
  • Add chopped greens, sugar, salt, cover and cook for 2-3 mins.
  • Take off lid, add corn flour paste, mix well and bring to a boil.
  • Add crushed herbs, stir, take off fire.
  • Serve hot with either steamed rice, white pulao or puries.
