  • 4 slices - bread (white or brown)
  • 1 tbsp - channa dal (gram dal)
  • 1 tsp - mustard seeds
  • a pinch of garam masala
  • a pinch of turmeric powder
  • salt to taste
  • 2 tbsp - oil
  • 1 - tomato (small), sliced
  • 1 - onion (small), sliced
  • 2 - green chillies
  • a handful of green peas (optional)

How to Make Simple Bread Upma

  • Heat the oil in a pan. Add the mustard seeds and let them splutter.
  • Add the channa dal, then the sliced onion.
  • Add turmeric powder and a bit of garam masala.
  • Add one sliced tomato, the green chillies and salt to taste.
  • Add the green peas and cook for some time.
  • Now add the bread slices cut into small pieces and cook again. Sprinkle water if you want the upma to be softer.
