  • 1 cup - masoor dal
  • 1 tbsp - ginger/garlic paste
  • 2 - ripe tomatoes
  • Pinch - of turmeric
  • Red chilli powder (to taste)
  • Curry leaves
  • Coriander leaves
  • salt
  • 2 Lemons
  • For the baghaar: jeera, whole red Chillies
  • 1 pod - Garlic
  • Curry leaves and red chilli powder

How to Make Simple Khatti dal

  • Boil the washed dal with tomatoes, ginger, garlic paste, red chilli powder, turmeric and salt.
  • Mash with ladle once totally softened.
  • Add fresh curry leaves, coriander and all of the lemon juice.
  • Heat oil, add jeera, whole red chillies, crushed garlic and red chilli powder in that order.
  • Cover immediately with lid.
  • Serve hot.
