How to Make Simple Pongal

  • Soak rice in water for five minutes. | Dry fry the dal on a heated tava till it gets a nice aroma and red colour. Keep it aside.
  • Heat ghee in a pressure pan, add mustard seeds, when it splutters add jeera, then chillies and ginger.
  • Immediately add two cups of water. Simmer, add rice, coconut gratings, dry fried dal and salt. Simmer it. Close the lid and pressure cook.
  • When the pan cols, open the lid and mix with a spoon.
  • Enjoy with any hot pickle and yogurt while it is piping hot.
