Ingredients

  • 6-7 - ladies fingers
  • 1-2 - drumsticks
  • 1 - potato (large)
  • 2-3 - tomatoes
  • 2-3 - onion
  • 1 Katori - tur dal (vati)
  • For masala:
  • 1/2 - coconut
  • 7 cloves - garlic
  • few methi seeds
  • 2-3 tsp - coriander powder
  • 2 tsp - chilli powder
  • 1/2 spoon - hing
  • 10 leaves - curry leaves
  • 1/2 piece - onion

How to Make Simple Sambar

  • Put oil in kadai and fry all the above masala.
  • First put garlic and onion, then methi seeds, chilly, coriander powder, hing, curry leaves and then coconut and fry till the coconut is golden brown.
  • Cool the masala and grind in mixer with water. Keep it aside.
  • First pressure cook dal and potato together with little turmeric and hing.
  • Wash and cut the vegetables and boil rest of the vegetables with turmeric and salt add tamarind water to this and once the vegetables are cooked add the dal and potato and allow to boil.
  • After that add the masala and curry leaves and boil.
  • Give a tadka of mustard seeds and serve hot with rice / idli / dosa.
