Ingredients

  • Moong dal - 2 cups
  • Turmeric powder - 1/4 tsp
  • Red Chilli powder - 1 tsp
  • Amchur - 1/2 tsp
  • Cumins - 3/4 tsp
  • Asafoetida powder - 1 pinch
  • Water - 4 cups
  • Oil - 4 tbsp
  • salt to taste
  • For Garnishing:
  • Onion - 1
  • Tomato - 1
  • Coriander leaves - few sprigs
  • How to Make Sindhi Makhni Dal:

    1. Heat 2 tbsp oil in a pan, add a pinch of asafoetida powder, add dal (pre-soaked for 2-3 hrs) and turmeric powder to it. Fry it for 2-3 mins.
    2. Add 4 cups of water and salt to taste.
    3. Let it boil for about 20 - 25 mins.
    4. The cooked dal should be soft and thick.
    5. Transfer dal in a serving bowl.
    6. Sprinkle red chilli powder and amchur.
    7. Heat 2 tbsp of oil in a frying pan. Add cumin to it.
    8. When cumin starts to crackle, pour it over dal.
    9. Garnish it with finely chopped onion, tomato and coriander leaves.
    10. Serve.
