Ingredients

  • Small Onions - 20
  • Tomato - 2
  • green chillies - 8 to 10
  • Toor Dal - 1/2 cup
  • Sambar powder - 2 tsps
  • Red chilli powder - 1 tsp
  • Tamarind extract - 3 spoons
  • Turmeric - a pinch
  • Curry leaves and coriander leaves -few sprigs
  • 4 tbsp - Oil
  • salt to taste
  • For seasoning:
  • Mustard Seeds - 1/2 spoon
  • urad dal - 1 tsp
  • Bengal gram dal - 1 tsp| | 5 - Dry red chillies

How to Make Small Onion Sambar

  • Pressure cook dal with enough water. Keep aside.
  • Heat oil in pan. Add seasonings, fry for a while. Add turmeric, sambhar powder, red chilli powder saute for a while.
  • Add small onions, green chillies, curry leaves, diced tomatoes, tamarind pulp and 1/2 cup water. Allow to boil till onions are cooked.
  • Mash the cooked dal. Add to the boiling sambar. Add enough water to bring it to sambhar consistency.
  • Add chopped coriander on top.
  • Also add 1/2 tsp of gingili oil to make it tastier.
