  • 3 cups hard Raw papaya (grated)
  • 1/2 cup tender green beans (french beans, Lobia or chawli) finely sliced
  • 1/4 cup Cashew nuts (whole and roasted)
  • 1 Tomato (deseeded and cut into 8 pieces)
  • For Tamarind Chilli Dressing
  • 2 tbsp Lemon juice
  • 2 tbsp Sugar
  • 2 tbsp finely chopped Coriander leaves
  • 1 tbsp Tamarind pulp
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tsp Red Chilli powder
  • some few green or Red Chillies (as per taste and finely chopped)
  • salt to taste
  • How to Make Som Tam Salad (Papaya Salad Thai style):

    1. Mix all the ingredients of the dressing together
    2. Put papaya and other ingredients in a bowl
    3. Pour the dressing and mix well
    4. Cover with a cling film and chill for at least an hour so that the flavours penetrate
    5. Serve by itself as a starter
