Ingredients

  • 1 cup - basmati Rice (washed and soaked for 30 minutes)
  • 1 cup - shelled Green peas (fresh or frozen)
  • ½ cup - small soya chunks
  • 2 Onions (finely sliced)
  • 1 tsp - Cumin seeds
  • 2 piece Cinnamon
  • 2 black Cardamoms (peeled)
  • 5 to 6 green Cardamoms (peeled)
  • 2 tsp - Red Chilli powder
  • 2.5 cups water
  • 5 to 6 Cloves
  • 2 Bay Leaves
  • salt to taste
  • 5 tbsp - oil
  • How to Make Soya and Green Peas rice:

    1. Soak the soya chunks in hot water for 20 mins.
    2. Drain out the water and keep aside the chunks.
    3. Heat oil in a heavy bottom vessel.
    4. Add the cumin seeds, cloves, cinnamon, bay leaves and cardamoms. Saute for few seconds.
    5. Add the sliced onions and fry on a medium flame till golden brown.
    6. Add the soya chunks, green peas and red chilli powder.
    7. Saute on a low flame for five mins.
    8. Add the rice, 2.5 cups water and salt. Mix well. Simmer.
    9. Cover with a lid. Gently mix at regular intervals.
    10. Cook till the rice is done.
    11. Serve hot with raitha or any gravy dish.
