Ingredients

  • 1/2 kg - shrimps, cleaned.
  • 2 cups - onion, chopped.
  • 1 cup - tomato, chopped.
  • Lime size ball - tamarind.
  • 3 - green chillies, slit.
  • 5 tbsp - oil.
  • 1 tsp - mustard.
  • 1/2 tsp - fenugreek.
  • a few - curry leaves.
  • 2 tbsp - Ginger Garlic paste.
  • 2 tsp - chilli powder.
  • 1/2 tsp - Turmeric powder.
  • 3 tsp - coriander powder.
  • salt to taste.

How to Make Special Prawn Thokku

  • Soak tamarind in 1/2 a cup of water and extract the juice.
  • Heat the oil in a kadai.
  • Add mustard and fenugreek.
  • When they splutter, add curry leaves and green chillies.
  • Fry for a few seconds.
  • Add onion, fry till it is light brown.
  • Add ginger-garlic paste, fry till fragrant.
  • Add all the powders and tomato.
  • Cook till the tomatoes are reduced to a pulp.
  • Add shrimps and salt.
  • Cover and simmer till prawns are cooked.
  • Add tamarind extract and simmer without covering for 5 mins.
  • Serve with steamed rice, idly or dosa.
