Ingredients

  • Rice - 200 g
  • Peas - 2 cups
  • Onion - 2 (medium sized)
  • Tomatoes - 1 (big)
  • green chillies - 4 (
  • Ginger garlic paste - 1 tsp
  • Star anise - 1
  • Maratti moggu - 1/2 inch
  • Cinnamon - a small piece
  • Clove - 1
  • Cardamom - 1
  • Bay leaf - 1
  • Oil/Ghee - 4 tbsp
  • salt to taste
  • Turmeric powder - 1 pinch
  • Water to cook
  • Curry leaves and chopped coriander to garnish

How to Make Spiced Peas Pulao

  • Wash the rice and set aside.
  • Heat oil/ghee in a pressure cooker. Add star anise, martin moggu, cinnamon, clove, cardamom, bay leaf and splutter.
  • Add ginger garlic paste, and fry.
  • Add sliced onions and saute well.
  • Add green chillies. Continue sauteing.
  • Add tomatoes, stir well and cook.
  • Add turmeric powder and continue cooking.
  • Once it thickens, add green peas and mix well.
  • Add salt and cook for a few minutes.
  • Add washed rice and stir well. Sprinkle chopped curry leaves.
  • Add enough water to immerse all these contents, stir again and close the lid. Cook up to 2-3 whistles.
  • Add coriander leaves, stir well.
  • Serve hot with onion raitha or cucumber raita.
