  • 2- large Brinjals
  • 1 -small Tomato
  • 2- Green chillies
  • 1 -small Lime size ball of Tamarind soaked in 1 cup water
  • 1 tsp -broken Urad Dal
  • 1 tsp -channa dal
  • 1/2 tsp -methi seeds and Mustard Seeds
  • 1 tsp - home made sambhar powder
  • 1 pinch -asafoetida
  • salt
  • Curry leaves and Coriander leaves for garnishing
  • 1 tsp -besan
  • How to Make Spicy Brinjal:

    1. Apply any edible oil on the brinjal and roast it on slow flame on the gas.
    2. Those having microwave can keep it on high for 4 mins (but it tastes better when on the gas).
    3. Chop tomatoes very finely and cut chillies into large pieces.
    4. Let the brinjal cool down, peel off the skin and mash it.
    5. Take a heavy bottom pan and pour in a little oil.
    6. Put in all the seeds for seasoning.
    7. Now put the green chillies and tomatoes.
    8. Let it cook for a while.
    9. Add the mashed brinjal and stir fry on low flame for 2 mins.
    10. Put in the sambhar powder and add salt, asafoetida and curry leaves.
    11. Lastly, pour in the tamarind water.
    12. Now make a paste of besan with very little cold water.
    13. Add it to the boiling gravy. Check the consistency and adjust accordingly.
    14. Now garnish with coriander leaves and serve hot with plain rice, pongal, dry phulka or idlis.
