How to Make Spicy Chitranna

  • Heat oil in a Kadai.
  • Add sesame seeds.
  • When they splutter, add fenugreek and cumin.
  • After few seconds, add sesame seeds and black gram Dal.
  • When these turn golden brown, add chillies, turmeric powder and asafetida.
  • Add tamarind pulp and 1/2 cup of water.
  • Simmer for 5 minutes.
  • Add rice and salt.
  • Mix well and keep covered on low heat for 5 minutes.
  • Remove from fire and mix in the grated coconut.
