  • 2 cups split peas (yellow)
  • 1/2 cup finely chopped Onions
  • 1/4 cup finely chopped Cilantro (or) Spinach leaves
  • 4 dry Red Chilli pepper
  • 1 tsp grated Ginger
  • salt to taste
  • oil for frying
  • How to Make Split Peas Vada:

    1. Soak the yellow split peas for about 4 hours. Drain the water.
    2. Keep aside about 2 tbsp of the soaked peas. Grind the rest of the peas along with the chilli pepper and ginger into a coarse consistency.
    3. Now, add the chopped onions, cilantro or chopped spinach. Add the salt.
    4. Add 2 tbsp of the soaked peas to the batter.
    5. Keep a kadai on the stove and add 3 cups of oil. Let the oil become hot.
    6. In the meanwhile, mix the vada dough thoroughly and make small equal balls.
    7. Take them one by one and flatten it on your palm and deep fry them. You can fry about 10-12 at a time.
    8. Turn them after a few minutes and take them out when light golden in colour.
    9. Serve it hot with coconut chutney or tomato chutney or with ketchup.
