Ingredients

  • Spring Onions - 1 bunch
  • Tomatoes, finely chopped - 1/2 cup
  • Moong dhal - 1 cup
  • cumin seeds - 1 tsp
  • Chilli powder - 1/2 tsp
  • Garam masala - 1/4 tsp
  • Salt to taste
  • Oil as required

How to Make Spring Onion Dhal

  • Soak the moong dal for an hour.
  • Cut the spring onions into small round pieces.
  • While cutting make sure you keep the bottom part i.e. the thick onion part separate from the leafy part.
  • Heat the tawa with a little oil and put the cumin seeds.
  • Add the onions alone and fry them for 5 mins.
  • Add the chopped tomatoes and fry them.
  • Add the chopped leaves of the spring onions and fry them for 3 mins.
  • Add the salt and chilli powder too.
  • Add the soaked moong dal to the tawa. Let it cook along with the spring onions until tender.
  • Add the garam masala powder and simmer.
  • Close the tava with a lid for 5 mins.
  • Remove from heat.
  • This dal is very simple to make and is good for health too.
  • It can served with phulkas, chapattis and rice.
