Ingredients

  • 1 cup - sprouted green gram
  • 1 cup - grated coconut
  • 1/2 cup - onion, chopped
  • ball of tamarind
  • 1 tsp - coriander seeds
  • 1 pieces cinnamon, 3 cm
  • 1 tsp - chilli powder
  • 1/2 tsp - asafoetida powder
  • salt to taste
  • 2 tbsp - oil
  • 4 cloves

How to Make Sprouted Green Gram Amti

  • Add 2 cups of water to the gram and simmer till soft.
  • Soak tamarind in 1/2 cup of water and extract the juice.
  • Add the juice and salt to the gram. Simmer for 2-3 mins.
  • Heat 1 and a half tbsp of oil, fry onion till golden brown and reserve.
  • Roast red chillies, coriander, cloves and cinnamon in remaining oil.
  • Add chilli powder and asafoetida and stir for few seconds.
  • Grind all these with coconut and reserved onion to a smooth paste.
  • Add the paste to the gram.
  • Add water if needed to get a thin gravy. Simmer for 3-4 mins.
  • Serve hot with steamed rice.
