Ingredients

  • Raw rice - 1 cup
  • Parboiled rice - 1 cup
  • Salt - 1/2 tsp
  • Grated coconut - 2 cups
  • Powdered jaggery - 1.5 cups
  • Cardamom powder - 1/2 tsp
  • Oil/ghee to grease

How to Make Steamed Pooran Wada

  • Soak raw rice and parboiled rice together for 3 hours.
  • Drain and spread on a cloth till almost dry.
  • Grind it to a fine powder.
  • Knead it with salt and water to form a thick dough that can be rolled into balls.
  • Combine grated coconut with jaggery powder and cardamom powder.
  • Make small balls of the rice mixture.
  • Flatten them into disc shape (with fingers) on a greased plastic sheet.
  • Grease a plate and place the discs on it.
  • Place some coconut filling over each of the discs. Cover with the another disc. Press the edges lightly to seal.
  • Steam the plate with the discs for 5-7 mins.
  • Serve hot with melted ghee.
