  • 1 cup butter, softened
  • 1.5 cups - sugar
  • 2 tsp - cream of tartar
  • 1 tsp - baking soda
  • 1/4 tsp - salt
  • 2 egg
  • 1 tsp - pure vanilla extract
  • 2.75 cups - all-purpose flour
  • 1/3 cup - sugar

How to Make Sugar Cookie

  • In a large bowl, beat the butter with an electric mixer at medium to high speed for 30 seconds.
  • Add 1.5 cups of sugar, cream of tartar, baking soda and salt. Beat until combined, scraping sides of the bowl occasionally.
  • Beat in egg and vanilla until combined.
  • Beat in as much of the flour as you can with the mixer.
  • Using a wooden spoon, stir in any remaining flour.
  • Cover and chill in refrigerator for 2 to 3 hours or until dough is easy to handle.
  • Shape dough into 1-inch balls. Roll balls in sugar.
  • Place balls about 2 inches apart on an ungreased cookie sheet.
  • Bake in a 375 degree F oven 7-8 mins or until edges are lightly browned.
  • Transfer cookies to a wire rack to cool.
