Ingredients

  • Channa dal - 2 cups
  • Brown Sugar - 2 cups
  • Cardamoms - 6
  • Scraped Coconut - 1/2 cup
  • Raw Rice - 2 cups
  • Urad dal - 1/2 cup
  • Oil for frying

How to Make Suhiyan

  • Roast the scraped coconut and cardamom and keep aside.
  • Cook channa dal till fairly tender and drain away excess water.
  • Add brown sugar to the dal and cook till the sugar sticks to dal.
  • Add coconut and cardamom.
  • Grind to a paste and make small balls of even size (size of a small lemon).
  • Soak rice and urad dal in water for half an hour and grind smoothly to an even consistency batter that can be poured.
  • Dip each ball in this batter and deep-fry in oil till brown.
