  • Channa dal - 2 cups
  • Brown sugar - 2 cups
  • Cardamoms - 6
  • Scraped Coconut - 1/2 cup
  • Raw Rice - 2 cups
  • Urad Dal - 1/2 cup
  • Oil for frying
  • How to Make Suhiyan:

    1. Roast the scraped coconut and cardamom and keep aside.
    2. Cook channa dal till fairly tender and drain away excess water.
    3. Add brown sugar to the dal and cook till the sugar sticks to dal.
    4. Add coconut and cardamom.
    5. Grind to a paste and make small balls of even size (size of a small lemon).
    6. Soak rice and urad dal in water for half an hour and grind smoothly to an even consistency batter that can be poured.
    7. Dip each ball in this batter and deep-fry in oil till brown.
