Ingredients

  • 1 cup - Channa dal
  • 1 cup - onions, thinly sliced
  • 1 tbsp - Fenugreek leaves or dill leaves, finely chopped
  • 1 inch piece - Cinnamon stick
  • 2 to 3 - Cardamoms
  • 2 - Cloves
  • 1 - Bay Leaf
  • 1 tsp - Cumin seeds
  • 1/2 tsp - Turmeric powder
  • 1/2 tsp - pepper powder
  • 1 tsp - Lemon juice
  • 1/2 tsp - Sugar
  • 2 tbs - Ghee
  • Salt to taste
  • How to Make Sukhi Channa Dal:

    1. Clean and soak dal for 15 mins.
    2. Boil with turmeric powder and salt with 5 cups water till soft. Drain the water.
    3. Heat ghee in a pan and roast cinnamon, cardamom, clove and cumin seeds.
    4. Add onions and fry till light brown.
    5. Add dal, sugar, pepper powder, lemon juice, bay leaves and fenugreek leaves. Stir gently.
    6. Do not mash the dal too much.
    7. Serve hot with paratha or rice.
