Ingredients

  • 2 cups - Rice
  • 1.5 cups - grated Jaggery
  • 3 tbsp - finely chopped Coconut
  • 1/2 tsp - Cardamom
  • Cashews - a few
  • How to Make Sweet Puttu:

    1. Soak the rice in water for 30 mins.
    2. Drain and spread on a towel.
    3. Grind into a powder and fry till done.
    4. Heat 1 cup of water along with pinch of turmeric powder and a pinch of salt and boil the water and allow it to cool
    5. Add the water little by little in the fried rice flour and mix the flour so that it is just wet.
    6. Sieve the moist flour in a strainer with large holes.
    7. Steam cook the rice flour in a pressure cooker for 10 mins
    8. Break the cooked flour with a ladle.
    9. In a separate pan, add little ghee, fry the cashews and the chopped coconuts till it turns golden brown colour.
    10. Add the grated jaggery and a little water and stir it well, till the jaggery becomes thick
    11. Now add cardamom powder and grated coconut and remove from flame
    12. Add the broken flour and mix it well with the jaggery juice
    13. Add the fried cashews and mix well. Serve.
