Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup - tur dal
  • 1 - tomato, large
  • For seasoning:
  • 1 tsp - oil (preferably ghee)
  • 1/2tsp - mustard seeds or Rai
  • 1 tsp - jeera or cumin seeds
  • pinch - hing
  • 1 stalk - curry leaves
  • 1 tbsp - ginger-garlic paste
  • 1/4 tsp - turmeric
  • 1 tsp - sugar
  • Salt to taste

How to Make Tangy Dal

  • Pressure cook dal and chopped tomato for 4 whistles.
  • For seasoning, heat ghee in a kadai. Add mustard seeds, cumin seeds and hing.
  • Once they start spluttering, add curry leaves and ginger garlic paste.
  • Fry it for a min until you can smell the aroma of the mixed ingredients.
  • Pour the tomato dal mixture into this.
  • Add turmeric, sugar and salt to it.
  • Let the dal simmer on a low flame for around 10 mins.
  • Serve, garnished with coriander, with rice or pulao.
