Ingredients

  • 1/2 kg - fish (cleaned, smeared with Turmeric and salt and lightly fried
  • 1/2 kg - ripe red Tomatoes
  • 1 tbsp - cooked and mashed Potatoes
  • 2 tbsp - Mustard oil for cooking
  • 2 tsp - finely chopped Onions
  • 400 ml - water
  • A bunch - fresh green coriander, chopped fine
  • 2 whole green chillies, left whole and uncut
  • Salt to taste
  • 1/2 tsp Turmeric
  • 1/2 tsp - Sugar
  • 1 tbsp - fresh Lemon or Lime juice
  • How to Make Tangy Fish Tenga:

    1. Heat oil in a kadai. Add the onions and stir for about minute
    2. Add the mashed potatoes and fry till light yellow
    3. Add the tomatoes, turmeric, salt and fry till the tomatoes begin to dry
    4. Add water and bring to a fast boil
    5. Add the fried fish, cover the kadai, lower the heat and leave it to simmer for about 10 mins
    6. Add chopped coriander, whole green chillies and sugar. Simmer for one more minute
    7. Add lime or lemon juice, and immediately transfer the entire contents to a glass bowl
    8. Serve hot or cold with plain boiled rice
