Ingredients

  • 1 cup - Rice
  • 1/2 cup - yellow moong dal
  • 15 - peppercorns
  • 1 - Bay Leaf
  • 1 stalk - Curry leaves
  • 1 tbsp - Jeera powder
  • 1 tsp - Ginger paste
  • 2.5 tbsp - Ghee
  • 6 to 7 cups - water
  • 1/2 tsp - Cumin seeds
  • 2 pinches - Asafoetida
  • Salt to taste
  • How to Make Tangy Venn Pongal:

    1. Wash and drain the dal and rice together. Place in a colander till all the water drains.
    2. Heat ghee and add seeds, leaves, peppercorns, asafoetida and ginger paste.
    3. Simmer for a minute.
    4. Add rice and dal.
    5. Gently stir for about 5 mins till you get an aroma.
    6. Add water, jeera powder and salt and cook, covered, till done.
    7. In between, add more water if required.
    8. Serve hot with kadhi or curds.
