Ingredients

  • 250 g - cooked tapioca ( kappa / cheeni ) pieces
  • 1 tbsp - oil
  • 1 tsp - Mustard Seeds
  • 1/2 tsp - Jeera (cumin seeds)
  • 1/2 tsp - Urad Dal
  • 2 green chillies, slit lengthwise
  • 1 spring- Curry leaves
  • 1/2 tsp - Turmeric powder (optional)
  • Salt
  • 1/4 cup - (or 3 tbsp) - grated Coconut
  • How to Make Tapioca Upma:

    1. Heat oil in a wide pan and add mustard seeds.
    2. When they begin to pop add cumin seeds ( jeera ), urad dal, slit green chillies and curry leaves and saute for 2 - 3 minutes or until fragrant.
    3. Add turmeric powder (Optional) and fry on a low heat for another 1 - 2 minutes.
    4. Add cooked tapioca pieces and adjust salt to taste.
    5. Mix all the ingredients well.
    6. Cover with a lid and cook on a low heat for 5 - 8 minutes stirring occasionally.
    7. Sprinkle grated coconut.
    8. Serve hot as a snack.
