Ingredients

  • Brussels sprouts - 30 (small ones)
  • Toor dal- 2 cups
  • Sambhar powder - 4 tsp
  • Chilli powder - 1 tsp
  • Brown Sugar - 1/2 tsp
  • Tamarind paste - 2 tsp
  • Water - 6 cups
  • Curry leaves - 10
  • Chopped coriander -4 tsp
  • a pinch - turmeric
  • salt
  • For seasoning: Oil - 6 tsp
  • Mustard seeds - 1/2 tsp
  • Urad dal- 1/2 tsp
  • Cumin - 1 tsp
  • Dry chillies - 4

How to Make Tasty Brussels Sprouts Sambhar

  • Clean and cut the Brussels sprouts at the stem ends. Pressure cook toor dal and sprouts for 3 whistles, in 6 cups of water, salt and a little turmeric.
  • Heat oil in a vessel and add all the other seasonings to it. When they splutter, add the boiled toor dal with Brussels sprouts.
  • Add sambhar powder, chilli powder, brown sugar, dry chillies and curry leaves to it. Add water if required.
  • Make sure sprouts are not mashed while stirring. When it boils add tamarind paste.
  • Keep on medium heat for 5 minutes.
  • Add chopped coriander and switch off the stove and put the lid on it.
  • This recipe can be made using any kind of spouts, not necessarily brussels sprouts
