Ingredients

  • 1/2 kg - Potato
  • 3-4 - Green chillies
  • 2 large - Onions
  • 1 cm cube - Ginger
  • 1 sprig - Curry leaves
  • 2-3 sprig - Coriander leaves (optional)
  • 1/2 tsp - Salt
  • 1/4 tsp - Mustard
  • 1/4 tsp - Urad Dal
  • For seasoning
  • 1-2 broken - Red Chillies
  • 1 tsp - Oil
  • Oil for deep frying
  • Batter for coating:
  • 1 cup - Besan
  • 1 dessertspoon - Rice flour
  • 1/4 tsp - Salt
  • How to Make Tasty Potato Bonda:

    1. Boil and mash the potatoes well.
    2. Mince the onions, ginger and green chillies fine, tear the curry leaves to small pieces and chop the coriander leaves.
    3. Heat oil. Season with urad dal, mustard and broken red chillies.
    4. Add onion, ginger, green chillies and curry leaves.
    5. Cook for 2-3 mins. until the onion is tender.
    6. Add mashed potatoes, coriander leaves and salt.
    7. Remove from fire and mix well.  
    8. Shape into balls, the size of  a small lime.
    9. Make a batter of coating consistency with besan, rice flour, salt and sufficient water. 
    10. Coat the potato balls with the batter and deep fry in hot oil.
    11. Drain off oil and serve hot.
