Ingredients

  • Rice - 2 cups
  • Water - 4 cups
  • Channa dal - 3 tbsp
  • Urad Dal - 2 tbsp
  • Mustard Seeds - 2 tsps
  • Sesame seeds - 3 tbsp
  • Tamarind pulp - 1/4 cup
  • Sugar -2tsp
  • Oil - 1 cup
  • Butter - 3tsp
  • Green chillies - 6
  • Ginger - 1 small piece
  • Whole Red Chillies - 6
  • Peanuts - 1/4 cup
  • Turmeric powder - 1/2 tsp
  • Salt to taste
  • How to Make Tasty Tamarind Rice:

    1. Wash the rice, add water and cook till done.
    2. Add salt to taste, sugar and turmeric powder to tamarind pulp. Heat in a pan on low flame till a nice paste is formed.
    3. Add tamarind paste to cooked rice.
    4. Grind 1 tsp mustard seeds and sesame seeds to a thick paste.
    5. Chop ginger and green chillies finely.
    6. Heat oil and add red chillies, 1 tsp mustard seeds, channa dal, urad dal and peanuts. Saute for 2-3 mins till dals turn brown.
    7. Add chopped ginger and chillies. Stir-fry for a minute.
    8. Add paste of mustard seeds and sesame seeds.
    9. Then add all these to rice with butter. Mix well and serve.
