  • 1 cup - uncooked Toor Dal
  • 4 - medium-sized tomatoes, chopped
  • 1 - green chilly, sliced
  • A bunch - coriander leaves, finely chopped
  • 1/2 tsp - Turmeric powder
  • 1/2 tsp - Asafoetida
  • salt to taste
  • For the seasoning
  • 1 tsp - Mustard Seeds
  • 1 tsp - Urad Dal
  • 1 tsp - Cumin seeds
  • A few Curry leaves
  • 2 tsp - oil
  • How to Make Tasty Tomato Dal:

    1. Clean the dal, add required amount of water, turmeric powder, asafoetida and pressure cook the dal.
    2. In a saucepan, heat 2 tsp oil and add mustard seeds, urad dal, cumin seeds.
    3. When the dal turns brown and the mustard seeds begin to splutter, add the curry leaves, tomatoes, green chilly.
    4. Cover and let it cook well till the tomatoes are soft and almost mashed-up.
    5. Add the cooked dal and mix well.
    6. Remove from fire and garnish with chopped fresh coriander leaves.
    7. Serve hot with plain rice or phulkas.
