Ingredients

  • 4 cups - Rice flour
  • 1/4 cup - Urad dhal flour
  • 3/4 cup - Roasted gram flour (Pootukadalai), roasted and ground to a powder
  • 2 tbsp (Optional) - Coconut scraped
  • 2 tbsp - Channa dal
  • 2 tsp - Red chilli powder
  • 2 tbsp - Butter
  • 1 tbsp - White sesame seeds
  • Water
  • Salt to taste
  • Oil for Deep Frying
  • 1/4 tsp - Asafoetida
  • Curry leaves - a few.

How to Make Thattai Crispy Snacks

  • Soak the channa dal for 1/2 an hour.
  • Mix the rice flour, urad dhal flour and the roasted gram flour.
  • Drain the water from the soaked channa dal.
  • Now add the channa dal to the flour.
  • Add the curry leaves, salt, butter, red chilli powder, sesame seeds and coconut (if using).
  • Knead into a firm dough.
  • Grease a zip lock cover with oil.
  • Take a lemon sized portion of the dough and flatten it with your hands.
  • Now heat oil in a kadai.
  • Drop the thattai into oil and fry on both sides until brown.
  • Let it cool.
  • Store in an air tight container.
  • Serve with tea.
