  • raw Rice - one and a half cup
  • tender Cucumber - 350 to 400 gm
  • grated Coconut - 1/2 cup
  • oil to cook the dosas
  • salt to taste
  • How to Make Thausali (Cucumber Dosa):

    1. Wash and soak the rice in water for 1-2 hours.
    2. Peel and grate the cucumber.
    3. Grind the rice with coconut to a smooth thick paste.
    4. It will become thinner when cucumber is added.
    5. So avoid adding much water while grinding the rice.
    6. Mix in grated cucumber and salt.
    7. The consistency of the batter should be like thin pouring cream.
    8. Add water if needed.
    9. Heat a non-stick fry pan and pour about 1/2 cup of batter on it and spread it with the back of a ladle or Katori to a disc of about 2 mm thick.
    10. Pour a tsp of oil all round it.
    11. When the underside is cooked, turn the dosa over and pour some more oil to cook the other side.
    12. Lift off the pan and serve hot with Chutney.
    13. Use all the batter thus.
    14. Variation: Sweet Thausalis may be prepared as above.
    15. Reduce the salt to a pinch and add 1/4 cup sugar or jaggery to the batter.
