  • 200 g - yellow moong dal
  • A handful - spinach
  • 1/2 tsp - turmeric powder
  • 2 - medium sized tomatoes
  • For Tempering:
  • 2 tbsp - oil
  • 1 tsp - cumin seeds
  • 3 to 4 green chillies
  • 5 to 6 flakes garlic
  • 3 to 4 cup - water
  • Salt to taste

How to Make Tomato Dal Palak

  • Wash and soak the dal for about 40 minutes.
  • Finely chop the spinach and wash well.
  • Boil the dal with water and turmeric powder in a heavy bottomed vessel.
  • When it boils lower the heat
  • After the dal is half cooked add salt to taste and spinach
  • Cook on a low flame till the dal is tender
  • Add the tomato puree and cook for 8-10 mins
  • After the tomatoes are well blended with the dal, remove from fire and mash the dal
  • For Tempering:
  • Heat oil in a ladle, add cumin seeds.
  • When the seeds splutter, add finely chopped green chillies and garlic.
  • Saute for a minute and add this tempering to the dal.
  • Serve hot with any sabzi.
