  • 200 g - yellow moong dal
  • A handful - Spinach
  • 1/2 tsp - Turmeric powder
  • 2 - medium sized Tomatoes
  • For Tempering:
  • 2 tbsp - oil
  • 1 tsp - Cumin seeds
  • 3 to 4 Green chillies
  • 5 to 6 flakes Garlic
  • 3 to 4 cup - water
  • Salt to taste
  • How to Make Tomato Dal Palak:

    1. Wash and soak the dal for about 40 minutes.
    2. Finely chop the spinach and wash well.
    3. Boil the dal with water and turmeric powder in a heavy bottomed vessel.
    4. When it boils lower the heat
    5. After the dal is half cooked add salt to taste and spinach
    6. Cook on a low flame till the dal is tender
    7. Add the tomato puree and cook for 8-10 mins
    8. After the tomatoes are well blended with the dal, remove from fire and mash the dal
    9. For Tempering:
    10. Heat oil in a ladle, add cumin seeds.
    11. When the seeds splutter, add finely chopped green chillies and garlic.
    12. Saute for a minute and add this tempering to the dal.
    13. Serve hot with any sabzi.
