Ingredients

  • 4-5 - tomatoes
  • 2 - medium onions
  • 5 - green chillies
  • 1 tbsp - gram flour (mixed in lukewarm water without lumps)
  • 1/4 tsp - turmeric
  • 1 tsp - red chilli powder
  • 2 tbsp - oil
  • 3 glasses - water
  • Salt to taste
  • For seasoning:
  • 1/4 tsp - mustard seeds
  • 1 tbsp - urad dal
  • 2 tbsps - channa dal
  • 1/2 tbsp - cumin seeds
  • 1 sprig - curry leaves
  • 1/4 tsp - asafoetida

How to Make Tomato Sabzi

  • Chop the onions, tomatoes and green chillies (not too finely though).
  • Heat oil in a non-stick pan and add the seasonings in the following order: hing, cumin, channa dal, urad dal, mustard seeds, and curry leaves.
  • Once they splutter, add the onions and fry them till they turn soft. Then add the tomatoes and green chillies.
  • Once they soft, too, add the water, turmeric, chilli powder, salt, and let it cook.
  • 5 mins before you remove from heat, add the gram flour mixed in water. Mix well and serve.
