Ingredients

  • 4 - tomatoes
  • Tamarind, a small piece
  • 1 tsp - salt
  • 1 tsp - red chilli powder
  • For seasoning:
  • 1 tsp - mustard seeds
  • Asafoetida, a pinch
  • Oil for frying

How to Make Tomato thokku

  • Add the tomatoes in boiled water and cover with a lid. After 1 hour take out the tomatoes and peel the skin.
  • Grind the tomatoes along with red chilli powder, salt, tamarind in a mixer to a fine paste.
  • Heat oil in a pan, and add mustard seeds once the oil is hot.
  • When the mustard seeds start to crackle, add the ground paste and fry over a low flame.
  • When the mixture thickens and starts separating from the oil, remove from the flame.
  • Tomato thokku is ready to be served with hot chapattis or curd rice.
