Ingredients

  • 1 cup - toor dal.
  • 1/2 cup - onion, cut to small pieces.
  • 3 - green chillies.
  • 1 small piece - ginger.
  • 2 pods - garlic.
  • 1.5 tsps - dhania.
  • 3/4 tsp - jeera.
  • 3/4 tsp - saunf.
  • 1 tsp - mustard.
  • 1 tsp - urad dal.
  • 1/2 tsp - turmeric powder.
  • curry leaves for seasoning.
  • oil for frying.
  • salt to taste.

How to Make Toor Dal Usili

  • Soak tuvar dal in water for 1/2 hour. Grind the wet tuvar dal along with green chillies, ginger, garlic, dhania, saunf, jeera and salt to a coarse paste.
  • Mix cut onions and turmeric powder with the ground paste and steam the mixture on greased idly plates in cooker for about 10 minutes.
  • Cool to room temperature.
  • Crumble the mixture to uniform consistency.
  • Heat oil in frying pan.
  • Add mustard, urad dal and curry leaves for seasoning.
  • Fry the dal mixture along with the seasoning in low heat till the mixture is dry and light brown.
  • Keep stirring to ensure uniform frying.
  • Serve hot. | |
