  • 1 cup - tur dal ( soak it for 1/2 hr and cook it with little pinch of turmeric separately )
  • 1 onion ( cut into small cubes)
  • 1 bunch of palak ( clean it and cut )
  • 1 tbsp - tamarind pulp
  • 2 green chillies (chopped)
  • a pinch of red chilli powder (optional)
  • 1/2 tsp - turmeric powder
  • 1/2tsp - jeera/rai
  • 1tsp - ginger garlic paste (optional )
  • 10-15 curry leaves
  • 1tsp - wet coconut powder(optional)
  • 1tbsp - oil

How to Make Traditional Palak Dal

  • Heat oil in a kadai. Now add jeera, rai, curry leaves, chopped green chillies, ginger garlic paste, onion cubes and keep stirring till onion turn little brown.
  • Next add turmeric, red chilli powder and then add palak keep frying till the oil gets separated.
  • Now add the tamarind pulp and little water. Let it simmer. After this, add the cooked dal and mix it with palak properly.
  • Add a cup of water to form a nice gravy dal.
