Ingredients

  • 1.5 cup - par-boiled Rice
  • 1/4 cup - Urad Dal
  • 1 tsp - Dry yeast
  • 1/2 cup - Coconut Milk
  • 1/2 tsp - Sugar
  • salt to taste.
  • How to Make Traditional Sannas:

    1. Wash and soak, rice and dal separately overnight.
    2. Drain and grind dal to a very fine paste adding coconut milk.
    3. Grind rice coarsely (like very fine semolina), adding coconut milk.
    4. Mix both rice and dal together after grinding.
    5. Mix yeast with sugar and 1.5 tsp warm water for 10 mins.
    6. When yeast ferments, add this to the dal and rice mixture with salt, beat well
    7. Add a little coconut milk, if necessary. The batter should be fairly thick
    8. Cover and keep aside for 7-8 hours, undisturbed
    9. Spoon batter onto an idli stand.
    10. Steam like idlis for about 20-25 mins.
    11. Serve hot.
