  • 1 cup - tur dal
  • A few Methi leaves, finely chopped
  • A few Spinach leaves, finely chopped
  • 1/2 - onion, finely chopped
  • A few Cloves of garlic, finely chopped
  • 2 - tomatoes, blended
  • 2 - green chillies, chopped
  • A pinch of Turmeric powder
  • Salt to taste
  • 1/2 inch - Jaggery
  • A few Curry leaves
  • A small pinch of Jeera
  • A few Coriander leaves for garnish
  • How to Make Tur dal with methi and palak:

    1. Boil the tuvar dal with turmeric powder in a pressure cooker for one whistle, so that the dal remains whole but is cooked. After cooking, a little water should remain in the cooker.
    2. In another frying pan, add some oil or ghee, fry jeera, then add curry leaves.
    3. Fry the onions till pink, add the garlic, finely chopped spinach and methi leaves.
    4. Stir fry for two mins. Then add tomatoes and cook till tomatoes are cooked fully.
    5. Add a small piece of jaggery and add this mix to the boiled dal. Cook for a few minutes for the flavours to blend.
    6. Garnish with coriander leaves and serve hot with rotis or naan.
