Ingredients

  • 1 cup - Turnip pieces
  • 3/4 cup - Toor Dal
  • 1 - Onion, chopped
  • 1 - Tomato, chopped
  • 1 - Green chilli, slightly opened
  • 1/2 tsp - Mustard Seeds
  • 1/2 tsp - Urad Dal
  • 2 - Red Chillies
  • 1/2 tsp - Asafoetida powder
  • 1/4 tsp - Cumin seeds
  • 5 - Curry leaves
  • 2 tsp - Coriander leaves
  • 2 tbsp - Lemon juice
  • Salt as per taste
  • 2 tsp - Oil
  • 2 pinches - Turmeric powder
  • How to Make Turnip N Lemon Pappu:

    1. Wash thoroughly the toor dal.
    2. Cook the toor dal in a pressure cooker with 3 cups of water and two pinches of turmeric powder.
    3. Put the lid, but don't put the weight.
    4. Let them cook until the steam come out.
    5. Now add the onion pieces, tomatoes pieces and turnip pieces with slightly opened green chillies and salt.
    6. Cook them for 5 whistles and turn off the stove.
    7. Heat oil in a pan and add mustard seeds, followed by urad dal, cumin seeds, asafoetida powder and red chillies and stir them well.
    8. Open the pressure cooker and add lemon juice and all the fried ingredients to the turnip pappu.
    9. Add the curry leaves and garnish with chopped coriander leaves.
    10. Serve hot.
