Ingredients

  • 1 cup Tuvar dal
  • 3 tbsp oil
  • 1 tsp Dhania
  • 1 tsp kali mirchi
  • 2 tsp Jeera
  • 1 tsp Mustard Seeds
  • 4 - Red Chillies
  • A few Curry leaves
  • 1/2 cup - Grated Coconut
  • 2 - Onions
  • 2 - Tomatoes
  • 1/2 tsp - Turmeric powder
  • Chopped Coriander leaves - A few
  • 1 tbsp - Tuvar dal
  • How to Make Tuvar Dal:

    1. Boil one cup tuvar dal in a pressure cooker and keep aside.
    2. In a kadai, put one tsp oil and fry one tbsp tuvar dal, one tsp dhania, one tsp kali mirch, one tsp jeera and four red chillies, till brown.
    3. Remove it.
    4. Grind these with half a cup of coconut into a smooth paste.
    5. Heat the kadai with two tbsp oil.
    6. Put one tsp of mustard and jeera.
    7. When it splutters, add a few curry leaves, two cut onions, two tomatoes and fry till done.
    8. Add boiled dal, turmeric powder and let it boil.
    9. Add salt and ground paste.
    10. Add water to bring it to required consistency and let it boil for some more time.
    11. Add chopped coriander leaves.
    12. Dal is ready to serve with chapatti or rice.
