  • 1 cup tuvar dal
  • 3 tbsp oil
  • 1 tsp dhania
  • 1 tsp kali mirchi
  • 2 tsp jeera
  • 1 tsp mustard seeds
  • 4 - Red Chillies
  • A few Curry leaves
  • 1/2 cup - Grated coconut
  • 2 - Onions
  • 2 - Tomatoes
  • 1/2 tsp - Turmeric powder
  • Chopped Coriander leaves - A few
  • 1 tbsp - tuvar dal

How to Make Tuvar Dal

  • Boil one cup tuvar dal in a pressure cooker and keep aside.
  • In a kadai, put one tsp oil and fry one tbsp tuvar dal, one tsp dhania, one tsp kali mirch, one tsp jeera and four red chillies, till brown.
  • Remove it.
  • Grind these with half a cup of coconut into a smooth paste.
  • Heat the kadai with two tbsp oil.
  • Put one tsp of mustard and jeera.
  • When it splutters, add a few curry leaves, two cut onions, two tomatoes and fry till done.
  • Add boiled dal, turmeric powder and let it boil.
  • Add salt and ground paste.
  • Add water to bring it to required consistency and let it boil for some more time.
  • Add chopped coriander leaves.
  • Dal is ready to serve with chapatti or rice.
