  • 1 cup - toor dal
  • 5 to 6 - red dried chillies
  • 3 - garlic cloves
  • 2 tsp - coriander (dhania)
  • a pinch - asafoetida (hing)
  • 2 tsp - cashews (optional)
  • 2 tsp - tamarind pulp or lime juice can be used
  • 2 tbsp - grated fresh coconut
  • 1.5 cups - cooked rice
  • 1 tsp - sugar
  • 1 - papad either microwaved or fried in oil
  • salt

How to Make Tuvar Masala Bath

  • Dry roast the tuvar dal without oil in a pan till a nice aroma comes and cool it on a plate.
  • In the same pan, add a tsp of oil and add garlic pods, dhania, hing. Fry for 2 mins till the rawness from the garlic goes. Now add the dried red chillies and fry for a minute.
  • Grind all the above into a coarse paste with tamarind pulp/lime juice and add little water to it.
  • Take cooled boiled rice in a plate, then add the ground paste above and mix well.
  • Add salt and sugar and mix again. Finally add the fresh coconut, break the papad and mix well.
