  • 1/2 kg - urad dhal (soaked 1-2 hours)
  • Red chillies - 2, cut
  • Ginger - small piece
  • Green chillies - 3, cut
  • Salt to taste
  • Curry leaves - a few
  • Oil for deep frying

How to Make Urad Vada

  • Wash and grind the urad dal to a thick paste.
  • While grinding add green chillies, red chillies and ginger.
  • Mix in the curry leaves and salt.
  • Meanwhile, heat oil in a kadai to deep fry the vadas.
  • Once the oil is heated, form small balls fro the batter and drop into the kadai.
  • Fry on medium heat until light brown.
  • Drain and serve hot with chutney.
