Ingredients

  • 1 cup Urad Dal (soaked in water for 1/2 hour)
  • 2-3 Green chillies
  • 1/2 cup Rice (soaked in water for an hour)
  • 1-2 Red Chillies (whole)
  • 1/2 cup - Grated Coconut
  • 1 tsp - Mustard Seeds
  • Asafoetida
  • Oil to season
  • How to Make Uyindu Koyakattai:

    1. For the stuffing:
    2. Grind dal with green chillies into a coarse batter.
    3. Add salt and steam for 10 mins.
    4. Heat the kadai, add oil, whole red chillies, asafoetida, grated coconut and mustard seeds.
    5. Allow to splutter, then add the steamed dal mixture and mix well.
    6. For making the dough:
    7. Grind the soaked rice to form a smooth batter.
    8. Add sufficient water and cook until all the water vaporises and we get a dough which can be rolled into balls.
    9. Take a medium sized lump of dough and spread it by hand into a cup shape.
    10. Fill two tsps of stuffing and close it.
    11. When all are stuffed, steam them for 15 mins.
