Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup - Val / Hyacinth beans
  • 1/2 cup - Toor Dal (cooked)
  • 1 - Onion, chopped
  • 1 - Tomato, chopped
  • 2 - Green chillies (slit opened)
  • 1 tsp - Mustard Seed + Urad Dal
  • 1/4 tsp - Asafoetida powder
  • 1/2 tsp - Sambar powder
  • 5 - Curry leaves
  • Salt
  • Oil
  • How to Make Val-Hyacinth Beans Sambar:

    1. Soak the dry val beans in water overnight.
    2. Pressure Cooked them for 2 whistles. Keep aside.
    3. Heat oil in a pan and add the mustard + urad dal and asafoetida powder and let them splutter. Add the chopped onion and tomato pieces and let them cook for a while.
    4. Add the green chillies and cooked toor dal with enough salt and water and bring them to a boil.
    5. Add the sambar powder and cooked val /hyacinth beans to the boiling dal and cook.
    6. Add curry leaves and turn off the stove.
