Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup - Val / Hyacinth beans
  • 1/2 cup - Toor dal (cooked)
  • 1 - Onion, chopped
  • 1 - Tomato, chopped
  • 2 - Green chillies (slit opened)
  • 1 tsp - mustard seed + urad dal
  • 1/4 tsp - Asafoetida powder
  • 1/2 tsp - Sambar powder
  • 5 - Curry leaves
  • Salt
  • Oil

How to Make Val-Hyacinth Beans Sambar

  • Soak the dry val beans in water overnight.
  • Pressure Cooked them for 2 whistles. Keep aside.
  • Heat oil in a pan and add the mustard + urad dal and asafoetida powder and let them splutter. Add the chopped onion and tomato pieces and let them cook for a while.
  • Add the green chillies and cooked toor dal with enough salt and water and bring them to a boil.
  • Add the sambar powder and cooked val /hyacinth beans to the boiling dal and cook.
  • Add curry leaves and turn off the stove.
