Ingredients

  • 1 - valappu (plantain inflorescence)
  • 1 cup - roasted Chickpeas
  • 4-5 - Green chillies
  • 3 - Onions
  • 2 inches stick - Cinnamon
  • 2 - Cardamom
  • 6 - Cloves
  • 1-1.5 tsp - Fennel seeds (saunf)
  • 1/2 cup - grated Coconut
  • 2 tbsp - Corn flour (or) Rice flour
  • refined oil for frying vadas
  • How to Make Valappu Vadai (Plantain Flowers Vadai):

    1. First clean the florets. Banana flowers have many rows of florets within one another (remove the stamen from the florets).
    2. Add one tbsp of oil to kadai and roast the florets on a low flame until they are soft.
    3. After it cools for 10 mins, grind it with all the other ingredients.
    4. Now add rice flour and salt. Shape into small vadas and deep fry in oil.
    5. Serve hot with meals or as tiffin.
